The Horizon School of Veterinary Assisting was
established by Horizon Veterinary Services
in September of 2000. A one-year educational
program was developed with emphasis
on the tasks necessary for assistants to

help technicians and veterinarians in primary
care practice, but also with enough intensity
so the knowledge and skills could be applied
in an emergency and specialty practice setting.
The comprehensive curriculum includes written
materials, lectures and training to provide
hands-on experience.
Horizon is now making the curriculum and
education materials
available to other
practices
around the country
that may be interested in
bringing this type of
training program to their
veterinary community.
For practices interested in starting a school of veterinary assisting in their community, Horizon Veterinary Services can provide all necessary documents for immediate startup of a training program. The package includes all student notes, teaching notes, workbooks, workbook answer keys, tests, quizzes and answer keys, as well as all PowerPoint presentations for lectures. Horizon also maintains a bank of test questions for updating exams, student letters, and internship forms and documents. Horizon can provide a complete curriculum package, yearly updates and training for the person who will be teaching the course. Practices interested in opening a school of veterinary assisting should contact the Technical Director for Horizon Veterinary Services, Deb Stafford, CVT, VTS (ECC) deb@horizondvm.com.
